Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a direct follow-up of J.K Rowling’s last book The Deathly Hallows, from her ‘Harry Porter’ series which revolves around “The boy who lived”. The book undoubtedly allows us to relive the experience from the series in a new different manner. It is seen that the entire book is written in a conversational style, as it was initially taken from a play jointly written by Jack Thorne, John Tiffany and the creator of the wizarding world, J.K Rowling.

The Cursed Child is wholly focused on two main characters, which firstly includes Harry Potter’s son, Albus Severus Potter, named after the two illustrious professors from Hogwarts, and secondly, Malfoy Draco’s son Scorpius. It also breaks the repeated custom of continuous escape and combat by Harry from the Dark Lord Voldemort who had killed Harry’s parents, James and Lily Potter, when he was merely an infant. Henceforth, it highlights a more complicated theme with a time turner which allows young Albus and Scorpius to travel back in time to reconstruct some events with the belief that it is a good deed, which in the end turns out to be disastrous.

The book emphasizes on the bond between two young boys whose families are considered to be on opposing sides. While Albus is burdened with a great family legacy which he never wanted, Scorpius is considered as a curse to Hogwarts due to his infamous father. Lack of understanding between Harry and Albus leads to friction in their relationship; however, in the end due to the surprising turn of events, the bond between Harry, Ginny and Albus is restored.

J.K Rowling has repeatedly tried to portray that we make our future based on the choices we make. In all her books throughout the series, it is never that Harry wins the challenges he faces alone. Instead, he always defeats his adversaries with the support of his friends. Lily’s love for Harry has always been a source of protection for him. Headmaster Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid were like a family he could rely on. The importance of friendship, family and pure love is also highlighted in this most recent book: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which is definitely worth reading.
